Team

Jefferies’ International Tax Department currently consists of 5 staff based in London;
with the Global Tax team of 25 tax professionals based in the United States. The International Tax Department is responsible for tax matters for Jefferies’ entities and branches in Europe and Asia Pacific, as well as providing support to the Global Tax team in New York on cross-border projects. The Head of International Tax reports to the International CEO and the Global Head of Tax.

The International Tax Department works collaboratively with the Global Tax Department, but also closely with other departments (e.G., Front Office business units, Finance, Legal, Regulatory Compliance, Treasury, Operations and Human Resources) and external stakeholders including HMRC, IRD, IRAS etc. and external auditors.

Role

This is a new role created in response to the expansion of the firm’s business. The European Tax Manager will work with all members of the International Tax team in London on a range of tax matters affecting the region.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities are:

  • assessing new business initiatives;
  • assisting on projects (e.G., transfer pricing, group restructuring and assessment of opportunities for the wider group);
  • assisting withconsulting projects;
  • reviewing tax computations and returns prepared by external advisors;
  • preparation ofmonthly, quarterly and year-end tax provisions for continental Europe;
  • preparation ofETR calculations for continental Europe;
    and
  • review/prepare monthly current/deferred tax calculations and quarterly/annual reporting packages for continental Europe.


Person Specification

The following skills and experience are required for this role:

  • a good team player, positive attitude and with strong communication skills including fluency in German
  • strong technical skills (including knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS principles) and keen to develop further;
  • ability to identify areas of risk, carry out an effective review and know when to escalate;
  • project management skills, plan and prioritise work and meet deadlines;
  • should be a qualified tax professional;
  • experience with Alteryx and Power BI would be desirable but not required;
    and
  • relevant FS sector experience considered an asset.
